Trying not to let the negativity seethe and fester, but I’m totally disgusted with cell phone providers right now. Got off the phone with ATT and had to go for a walk in this very cold NY weather.
After being a good customer for ten years, I decided to leave ATT and try Tmobile. Seems companies aren’t asking you to commit to contracts; fees are appearing to go down, and other carriers are finding ways to lure us in. I took the bait and switched the second week of November when I’m sure my last two-year ATT contract was up. So far Tmobile has billed a week early for both November and December even after I called last month to supposedly fix this “error.” My latest bill, due January 3rd, is double what I should owe. I called Tmobile again, and was told their policy is to bill you on the 3rd although your new cycle starts on the 11th of each month. This is clearly a way for them to make new, naive customers eat shit and just go along blindly as they rake in millions in extra money they should not be entitled to. I guarantee most people just give in and pay them. If you add up that one week payment times all their customers, it has to be a fortune their collecting.
This is the result of all the business and marketing majors who incessantly dream of scam after scam, finding new ways for businesses to take advantage of consumers. It’s downright disgusting and because of our reliance on technology, they are getting away with it. I’m done with this.
I’m taking an old phone, bringing it to another carrier, maybe boostmobile again, and paying by the month for only text and phone calls. I don’t need to be constantly checking facebook, searching google or seeing who emailed me while I’m out of the house. Regarding email, I just logged into yahoo from my home computer, (lately I’d been only checking email from my phone) and found a ton of emails from the past few weeks that never came through on my phone.
I’ve written posts on technology, our reliance on it and the price we are paying, not only socially, personally, but financially. It has to stop. I’ve read many wise articles that say we are losing touch with our humanity, nature and all this techy crap is taking a horrible toll on all of us.
